More than 95 percent villages in India today have internet access with 3G or 4G mobile connectivity. As per the data released by the Ministry of Communication, out of around 6 lakh 44 thousand villages, almost 6 lakh 13 thousand villages have internet access as of April this year. Meanwhile, out of a total 95 crore 44 lakh Internet Subscribers in India, more than 39 crore 83 lakh are from rural areas.

The Ministry also informed that total internet subscribers in the country have grown at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate of 14.26 percent from around 25 crore 16 lakh million in the past ten years, including villages, and tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Furthermore, India’s ranking in average Internet Download Speed has improved by 114 ranks, from 130 in 2014 to 16 this year with an average download speed of 105.85 Megabits per second. The Ministry said that it is taking various technology-led startups and innovation schemes like TIDE 2.0, GENESIS, Centres of Excellence and Next Generation Incubation Scheme.
