The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has transformed 25 per cent of the identified Cleanliness Target Units – CTUs into clean spaces and beautified under the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign. The Ministry said in a release that more than 5 lakh CTUs that were dark, difficult, and neglected spots, have been targeted for cleanliness drives across the nation. It added that over 3 crore citizens have joined in voluntary action to transform urban and rural India.
The Ministry also highlighted that, so far cleanliness initiatives in CTUs are actively underway in over 4 lakh locations nationwide, showcasing impressive participation across various States. It said that this initiative is one the significant pillars of the two-week campaign running from the 17th of this month to the 2nd of October, as Swachh Bharat Mission Urban completes an iconic decade of swachhata.
