In Mizoram, the first ever Aizawl International Half Marathon was held on Saturday morning from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Mualpui in Aizawl. More than 1500 athletes took part in the event. There were four categories: Half Marathon (21.1 Km), Open Race (10 Km), Fun Race (5 Km) and Junior Category (5 Km). Prize money worth 10 lakh rupees was awarded.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor, General (Rtd) Vijay Kumar Singh underscored the importance of organizing even bigger and more inclusive events in the future, aiming for greater participation and public engagement. He expressed confidence that the Mizoram International Half Marathon will soon become one of the most popular and sought after sporting events in India.
Sports & Youth Services Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar declared that the next Aizawl International Half Marathon is scheduled for Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, with hopes for even greater participation. The Sports Minister emphasized the need for building a strong sporting culture so that Mizo youth could book a berth in the 2036 Olympics.
