Marine Fish production and export of seafood products from marine capture fisheries in the country have increased in recent years. In a written reply in Lok Sabha Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Purushottam Rupala said that the marine fish production of the country has increased from 34.76 lakh tones in 2020-21 to 41.27 lakh tones in 2021-22 with annual growth rate of more than 18 percent. Also there has been an increase of more than 28 percent in the exports supported by marine capture fisheries. He further added that the Department of Fisheries is implementing a flagship scheme Pradhanmantri Matsya Sampada Yojna to provide financial support to the fishermen for production of boat, catch, nets, communication and tracking devices.
