Miami Open: Alexandra Eala beats Iga Swiatek in Women’s Singles quarterfinals

In Tennis, teenager Alexandra Eala pulled off another upset at the Miami Open when she knocked off five-time Grand Slam champion and second-seeded Iga Swiatek 6-2, 7-5 in the Women’s Singles quarterfinals in Florida. Eala has reached her first WTA semifinals after beating her third major champion. The 19-year-old left-hander, who received a wild card into the WTA 1000 event, is the only Filipino player on the professional tennis tour and entered ranked 140th.
 
Along the way, she defeated 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys, who is ranked No. 5. World number one Aryna Sabalenka and sixth-seeded Jasmine Paolini have already reached the Women’s Singles semifinals. In the Men’s Singles quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic will face American Sebastian Korda this morning. India’s Yuki Bhambri and his Portuguese partner Nuno Borges lost to 6th seeded British pair of Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash 6-7, 6-3, 8-10 in Men’s doubles quarterfinals.
