Heavy rain continues to lash across Kerala. A red alert is issued in Idukki district and orange alert in 11 districts. Extensive damage is being reported from across the State.24-hour control rooms and relief camps are opened in all districts. In the wake of heavy rains, authorities have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in kannur, Kasargod , Kozhikode, Kottayam, and Palakkad districts, tomorrow. M.G. University has postponed the examinations to be held tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Met Department forecasts heavy rains to continue in Kerala for the coming two days.
Incessant rains continued to wreak havoc in several parts of Kerala, causing widespread damage across the state. The uprooting of trees damaged houses, disrupted traffic, and snapped the electricity supply at several places. Several families have been shifted to relief camps in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Alappuzha districts.
AIR Correspondent reports that "Several low-lying areas in the state were flooded following heavy rain. Water entered homes, particularly in the upper Kuttanad region of Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. Many houses were marooned, following which people were shifted to relief camps using country boats.
1154 persons have been shifted to 64 relief camps across the state. 14 houses were completely and 398 houses were partially damaged in the rain.
A sudden whirlwind struck Chalakkudy area in Thrissur district this afternoon, uprooting several trees and snapping power lines. The district authorities in Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Kottayam, and Palakkad have declared a holiday for all educational institutions tomorrow. The Mahatma Gandhi University has postponed all examinations to be held tomorrow."
