Met Department predicted floods in several districts of Himachal Pradesh

Monsoon remains active in Himachal Pradesh, with intermittent rain continuing at various places, affecting normal life. Due to the rain, the water levels in rivers and streams have increased, and incidents of landslides are being reported in various areas. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, so far four national highways and 338 roads are blocked due to landslides in the state. 

 

Apart from this, 488 electricity transformers and 116 drinking water schemes are also stalled. Shimla district has the highest number of 104 roads blocked. Two national highways are blocked in Mandi district and one each in Kullu and Kinnaur. National Highway-05 in Nigulseri of Kinnaur district is getting repeatedly obstructed due to debris and stones falling from the hill. 

 

The Meteorological Department has predicted flash floods in Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmaur and Shimla districts during the next 24 hours. People of these districts have been appealed to stay away from rivers and streams. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the plains and mid-mountain areas of the state till August 18.
