Media Council Bill passed today; digital & print journalism in Nepal to be more accountable and credible

Nepal’s parliament today passed the ‘Media Council Bill-2080 BS’, aimed at making digital, online, and print journalism more decent, accountable, and credible.

During a session of the National Assembly, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung proposed the Bill for endorsement, along with a report from the Committee for Legislation Management. The bill was unanimously endorsed, making the Media Council more autonomous.

The Bill seeks to transform the existing Nepal Press Council into the Media Council and develop it into a competent entity that promotes the growth of free and independent journalism.
