The benchmark domestic equity indices today ended with gains of over one percent, continuing their upward trajectory for the fifth straight session with banking, IT and oil and gas stocks leading the charge. The broader market indices at the BSE outperformed the frontline indices. The Mid-Cap index climbed 2.2 percent, and the Small-Cap index added over 1.6 per cent.
The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, rose 855 points to close at 79,409. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 gained 274 points to settle at 24,126.
In the Forex market, the rupee today appreciated by 24 paise to close at 85 rupees and 13 paise against the US dollar.
In the Indian Bullion Market, 24 Karat Gold was trading at 97,330 rupees per 10 grams, while Silver 999 Fine was trading at 96,820 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
Brent Crude was trading at 66 dollars and 46 cents per barrel. WTI Crude was trading at 63 dollars and 19 cents per barrel when reports last came in.
