Market Update: Sensex & Nifty touch record highs 

Benchmark domestic equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, saw record highs today. The BSE Sensex gained 146 points, or 0.18 percent, to close at 80,665. The NSE Nifty advanced 85 points, or 0.35 percent, to close at 24,587. Vigorous foreign fund inflows helped indices to hit new peaks. Foreign institutional investors made substantial equity purchases, acquiring stocks worth over 4021 crore rupees.

 

 

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index up by 0.95 percent, while the Small-cap index rose 0.21 percent.

 

18 out of 30 companies registered gains in the Sensex index.

 

The top three gainers today were, SBI 2.55 percent, NTPC 2.23 percent and Ultra Cement 1.98 percent.

 

On the other hand, the three major laggards were, Asian paints 1.44 percent, Tata Steel 1.13 percent and Axis Bank 0.77 percent.

 

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 16 out of 20 sectors logged gain.

 

The top three gainers were, Oil and Gas 2.32 percent, Energy 1.61 percent and Realty 1.4 percent.

 

 

On the other hand, the 3 major laggards were, Information Technology 0.2 percent, Capital Goods 0.12 percent and Industrials 0.07 percent.

 

The overall Market breadth at the BSE was positive. Out of 4,168 Companies, the shares of 2,036 companies advanced, 2,004 declined and 128 remained unchanged.

 

 

Gold is trading higher today at Multy Commodity Exchange. The precious metal, for August contract, was up 0.11 percent to trade at 73,349 rupees per 10 Grams. On the other hand, silver is trading lower. For September contract, it was down 0.48 percent to trade at 92,666 rupees per kilogram when reports last came in.
