Many regions, including northwest and central parts of the country, are still reeling under the heatwave condition. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heatwave to severe heatwave conditions prevailed over many parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Dr. RK Jenamani said that despite the slight reduction in temperature, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will continue to prevail over the northwest and central regions of the country.
The IMD has forecasted that the heatwave conditions prevailing over these regions are likely to abate gradually in the next 2-3 days. The temperature over these regions is also likely to fall gradually by 3-4 degrees Celsius during the same period. The weather department also forecasted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northeast India for the next 4-5 days.
On the advancement of the Southwest Monsoon, the IMD said that the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal. It also advanced over the remaining parts of Tripura, Meghalaya, and Assam and most parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Under its influence, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Andaman and Nicobar Islands till 2nd June.
