The Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh, in a social media post, said that the Government has initiated taking biometrics of the illegal immigrants and so far five thousand one hundred seventy three immigrants have been registered in biometric. He said that till May 7 of this year, these five thousand four hundred fifty seven illegal immigrants have been found settled in Kamjong district of Manipur which shares a porous border with neighbouring country Myanmar. The Government has decided to deport these immigrants to their country, he added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister visited the villages which had been damaged by the hail storm accompanied by the thunderstorm and rainfall last Sunday. He also visited the special relief camps opened for those families affected by the natural calamity and interacted with the inmates.
Speaking to media persons, Mr. Biren said that fifteen thousand eight hundred houses have been verified till yesterday which have been damaged in the natural calamity. The Government is planning to provide GI Sheets to the affected families this week and the concerned departments have also started a survey of crop damages. He also said that the compensation to the affected families will be disbursed through the concerned local MLAs very soon.
