Manipur Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi called on the Governor of Manipur Sushri Anusuiya Uikey this evening at Raj Bhavan and apprised about the various measures taken up for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking shelter in relief camps in different parts of the State. The Chief Secretary informed the Governor that essential commodities are being given and arrangements for providing temporary shelter homes for the IDPs are in progress both in hills and valley districts.
When the Governor asked about the Jiribam district which has witnessed ethnic violence recently, Dr. Vineet Joshi said that around nine hundred IDPs are taking shelter in relief camps now and their requirements are being given. He said that the Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam district has been instructed to assess the damaged houses and properties for taking up necessary arrangements.
The Governor also directed the Chief Secretary to expedite ways for appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for Dhanamanjuri University (DM University) and facilitate joining of newly selected Assistant Professors. It may be mentioned that the students of DM University conducted agitation against the delayed appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff of the newly founded State University.
