Maldives to go to polls tomorrow to elect a new president

Maldives is headed for the Presidential Elections tomorrow.
 
Akashvani correspondent reports that Maldives is headed for Presidential Elections tomorrow in which eight candidates are in the fray including incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The Alliance of Maldivian Democratic Party from which Mr. Solih is contesting had won the popular vote with 58 percent in 2018. The opposition’s alliance includes Progressive Party of Maldives and People’s National Conference. Maldives has been a strategic partner of India and central to India’s Neighborhood First policy while Maldives has been following an India First approach. Polling would commence at 8 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. local time. The officials would begin the Counting of votes at 4:30 p.m. An outright 50% vote would be required for a win. In the absence of a clear majority, a run-off among the top two would be held.
