Malabar 2024 aims to boost cooperation among India, Australia, Japan & US

The Multilateral Maritime Exercise Malabar 2024 is currently underway in Visakhapatnam, involving the navies of India, Australia, Japan, and the United States since October 9. Organized by the Eastern Naval Command, the exercise aims to boost maritime cooperation. Key activities include high-level meetings among naval leaders focusing on enhancing interoperability in the Indo-Pacific region and discussing future exercises.

Participants engaged in Subject Matter Expert Exchanges and cross-deck visits, which fostered valuable knowledge sharing and best practices. This collaboration is crucial for improving maritime security. The crews also participated in friendly sports events, reinforcing bonds and embodying the theme “Stronger Together.” An Indian dinner provided a cultural experience, enhancing camaraderie among the nations.

As the harbour phase wraps up, the focus shifts to the upcoming sea phase, starting October 14, with discussions aimed at ensuring effective operational coordination in the Bay of Bengal. Overall, the exercise has played a significant role in strengthening alliances and enhancing maritime security among the four nations.
