Maharashtra: Zika patients increases in Pune with five pregnant women and two others testing positive

In Maharashtra, number of Zika patients is steadily increasing in Pune with five pregnant women and two others testing positive yesterday taking the number of cases in the district to 72.

The number of Zika patients in Pune city itself has gone up to 65. Seven more people have been infected with Zika virus in Pune yesterday. These patients include five pregnant women, an 18-year-old youth and a 40-year-old man. Normal scans of unborn babies of the pregnant women are normal. Pune District Health Department has said that the number of patients is going to increase as more examination reports are pending from the National Institute of Virology and Sassoon Hospital. The Pune Municipal Corporation is appealing to the citizens to be careful against the Zika virus. A team from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) team is collecting samples of live mosquitoes and larvae from spots where Zika-confirmed cases are being reported. Even if one larva or mosquito tests positive for an infection the entire pool is considered contaminated. This helps to understand the source and the possible vectors transmitting the infection.
