The two trustees of the Badlapur school, where two minor girls were sexually abused in August leading to outrage, were produced before a local court in Thane today. Even though the school’s chairman Uday Kotwal and secretary Tushar Apte were granted bail in one case, the police re-arrested them in another case related to the same incident and will again produce them before the court tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court has ordered a speedy magisterial inquiry into the killing of Akshay Shinde, the cleaner who allegedly abused the girls. In a bid to escape from custody last month, Shinde had tried to snatch a gun from a policeman while being taken to Thane for investigation. He was eventually shot dead.
Directing the authorities to submit the inquiry report by 18th November, the court said the probe must include a forensic examination of the vehicle in which the incident took place as well as the injuries suffered by the policemen. The Court further advised the counsel representing the petitioner to avoid speaking to the media.
