Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbanand Sonowal said that, Vadhvan port will make distinguished identity for Maharashtra and India. He was addressing a press conference in Palghar today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Vadhvan Port tomorrow. Talking about the capacity of this port Mr. Sonowal said it will be one of India’s largest deep-water ports and one of the top 10 ports of the world. It will provide direct connectivity to international shipping routes, reducing transit times and costs. He said, the Port will create 12 lakh direct or indirect employment opportunities.
The total cost of this port is more than 76,000 crore rupees. More than 1400 hectares area in the sea will be reclaimed. The Port will comprise nine container terminals, four multipurpose berths, four liquid cargo berths, a Ro-Ro berth and a Coast Guard berth. The Port will be constructed by Vadhavan Port Project Limited (VPPL), an SPV formed by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) with a shareholding of 74% and 26%, respectively.
