Maharashtra’s Rural Development and Tourism Minister Girish Mahajan announced a grant of 15 crore rupees for the development of water sports tourism at Mehrun Lake in Jalgaon city of Maharashtra. Speaking at the inauguration of Maharashtra’s first three-day ‘Aquafest’ water tourism festival, Mahajan emphasized the need to immediately begin technical preparations for the development of water sports in the area. He also noted that 20 crore rupees have been sanctioned for the development of the Chowpatty at Mehrun Lake. He expressed confidence that this initiative will attract not only Jalgaon residents but also tourists from outside the district.
Mahajan further remarked that tourism is evolving into a thriving industry, with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation – MTDC leading several major projects across the state. He highlighted Maharashtra’s rich resources, including forts, water bodies, caves, and forests, and explained that the state has introduced a new tourism policy after studying similar efforts across the country.
