Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister Piyush Goyal attended the Mahavir Jayanti celebrations in Mumbai. Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan presided over the ‘Mahavir Swami Janm Kalyanak Mahotsav’ organized by the Bharat Jain Mahamandal on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti at Yogi Sabhagruh, Mumbai, today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor emphasized that paying taxes is a way of serving society and appealed to the people to fulfill their duty to the nation by paying taxes.
The Governor said that Jainism has given importance to a vegetarian lifestyle. He informed that there has been a radical change in his life since he became a complete vegetarian in the year 2000. Stating that two of the five epics in Tamil were written by Jain sages, the Governor said that Jainism has a great influence on the people of the country.
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, while advocating non-violence, said that it is important to control evil tendencies. He said that extremist Tahavvur Rana is being extradited to India due to the efforts of the Central Government.
Minister Goyal said that the central government has taken the oath to eradicate Naxalism and that it will be completely eradicated from the country by March 2026 next year. He said that today, out of 160 districts in the country, only 12 districts are affected by Naxalism.
