Madhya Pradesh govt hikes compensation for human death in wildlife attack to Rs 25 lakh

The Madhya Pradesh government has hiked the compensation to the kin of those killed in wild animal attacks to 25 lakh rupees from 8 lakh rupees. The announcement was made a day after an elephant trampled two men to death near the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that the families of the two persons who were killed in elephant attacks in Umaria will get enhanced compensation of 25 lakh rupees each. An elephant, captured yesterday evening, had killed a villager at Devra village, some 10 kilometres from the tiger reserve. It also trampled to death another villager at Brahe in the buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The tiger reserve is now under the spotlight over the deaths of 10 elephants recently.
