The government has provided tap water supply to over 15.52 Crore rural households in the country so far under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Replying to the discussion on the Demands for Grants related to his Ministry in Lok Sabha, Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil said when the Jal Jeevan Mission was launched in 2019, only around three crore rural households had tap water connections. He said, 25 lakh women from five lakh villages have been trained to test water samples using Field Test Kits. The Minister said, according to reports, around 1.36 lakh child deaths per year would be prevented, if safe and adequate drinking water is supplied to every household in the country. Mr Patil informed that the Centre has increased the budget on drinking water and related areas by four times as compared to the previous UPA regime. After his reply, the House passed the Demands for Grants related to the Jal Shakti Ministry for the year 2025-26.

He said, now the scheme has been extended to 2028. Mr Bruce accused the government of only focusing on cleaning the river Ganga and ignoring the other major rivers in the country. Anand Bhadauriya of Samajwadi Party alleged that the government has failed on every front like linking of rivers, Namami Gange and Atal Bhujal Yojana. He accused the government of having no plan to manage floods and drought in the country. Some other members including Independent MP Umeshbhai Babubhai Patel and Raj Kumar Roat of Bthe harat Adivasi Party also participated in the discussion.

The Rajya Sabha today resumed discussion on the working of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Participating in the discussion, Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi of BJP said that the Home Ministry has worked to make the country secular in the true sense by abolishing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. He also lauded the organisation of Maha Kumbh saying that no untoward incident happened during this mega event which shows the efficiency of security forces. On the proposed delimitation exercise, Dr Trivedi asked the opposition parties to support population control legislation. He said the Home Ministry has worked with sensitivity to deal with the issues faced by Manipur. Congress MP Ajay Maken raised the issue of rising crime in Delhi saying that Delhi Police comes directly under the Home Ministry. He said Delhi has the highest rate of crime against women, children and senior citizens. He said, 77 thousand cases are pending in Delhi under crime against women. He urged that the BJP-led state government must work in a coordinated manner with the Centre to effectively deal with the issue. He raised the issue of the growing drug menace in the country. He said, as per the NCRB report of 2022, the number of cases registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) increased to one lakh 15 thousand from 33 thousand in 2010 to 2014. M Shanmugam of DMK raised the issue of long working hours of security personnel and vacant positions in the Central Armed Police Forces. Sanjay Singh of Aam Aadmi Party questioned the government over the rising crimes across the country saying that Delhi has become the centre of crime. Discussion is underway.
