In the single and first phase of General Elections in Tamilnadu, out of the 1085 valid nominations, 138 candidates have withdrawn while 950 candidates are in the fray in the final announcement. In the Vilavancode by-election, ten candidates are in the fray. In the 39 constituencies, 874 men and 76 women will contest the election. In Karur, a maximum of 54 candidates are in the fray.
In Nagapattinam, a minimum of nine candidates are contesting. A total of six crore 23 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in 68144 polling stations on April 19th in a single phase. The by-poll for the Vilavancode Assembly constituency will also be held on the same day. More than ten lakh first-time voters and more than six lakh voters above the age of 85 years will also exercise the power of democracy.
The Election Commission has been strictly enforcing the model code of conduct with 39 general observers, 20 police observers and 58 expenditure observers in the State. The public has been encouraged to use the C Vigil App and the 1950 help desk number for poll-related complaints.
