Lok Sabha takes up discussion on Demands for Grants under Ministry of Railways for 2025-26

The Lok Sabha has taken up discussion on the Demands for Grants under the Ministry of Railways for 2025-26. Initiating the discussion, Varsha Gaikwad of Congress has alleged that this Union Budget is a failed budget. She questioned the government over passengers’ amenities in railways and rail accidents in the country.

The Congress leader attacked the Centre over the recent stampede incident at New Delhi railways station. She accused the government of conspiring to privatise the Indian Railways.

Participating in the discussion, Satabadi Roy of TMC highlighted challenges faced by passengers while booking online rail tickets. She also criticized the government over the rail accidents in the country.

Meanwhile, The Rajya Sabha today resumed discussion on the working of the Ministry of Railways. Sanjay Seth of BJP said, the Railways has witnessed transformative changes since 2014. He said, Indian Railways has now become the fourth largest rail network in the world.

Mr. Seth said, the Railways stations are being designed parallel to Airports and it has set a new benchmark in sanitation. He added that over three lakh toilets have been built in the Rail coaches.

He also lauded the Vande Bharat trains saying that it is providing a comfortable journey to passengers. The discussion is underway.

Janardan Singh Sigriwal of BJP said the Union Budget has made an allocation of two lakh 65 thousand crore rupees to strengthen infrastructure and modernisation of railways as well as for safety and security of passengers.

He said the government has plans to run 100 new Amrit Bharat trains, 50 Namo Bharat trains, and 200 Vande Bharat trains in the country.

Mr. Sigriwal added that the centre has taken several steps to improve the railways facilities and infrastructure in Bihar. He also highlighted that 12 Vande Bharat trains are being operated in the state.

The BJP MP said over three thousand kilometers rail track has been electrified in the state since 2014. The discussion is underway.
