Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: Ricky Andrew J Syngkon of VPP emerges winner in Shillong

The results of the vote counting for the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya have been announced. The Voice of the People Party (VoTPP) candidate, Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon, has won the Shillong seat, while Saleng Sangma of the Congress has secured the Tura seat.

 

AIR correspondent reports, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. BDR Tiwari, has announced that VoTPP candidate Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon won the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency by a significant margin of over 300,000 votes, defeating his high-profile rivals: sitting MP Vincent H. Pala from the Congress and ruling NPP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh.

 

Ricky A.J. Syngkon polled 571,078 votes, while Vincent Pala of the Congress polled 199,168 votes, and NPP candidate M. Ampareen Lyngdoh polled 186,488 votes.

 

In the Tura Parliamentary seat, Saleng Sangma of the Congress defeated Agatha Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP) by a margin of 155,202 votes. Saleng Sangma, a three-time MLA and the current MLA of Gambegre constituency, polled 383,919 votes, while his nearest rival Agatha Sangma polled 228,678 votes.

 

Surprisingly, the None Of The Above (NOTA) option set a new record in this Lok Sabha election, receiving 11,008 votes in the Shillong Parliamentary seat and 5,840 votes in the Tura Parliamentary seat.
