Legendary Odia film actor Uttam Mohanty, who passed away last night while undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis at a private hospital in Gurugram, will be cremated with full state honours today. His mortal remains are being brought to Bhubaneswar. A celebrated figure in the Odia film industry, Uttam starred in over 130 Odia films, leaving an indelible mark in regional cinema. His contributions extended beyond Odisha, with appearances in 30 Bengali films and a Hindi movie ‘Naya Zahar’.
Uttam was known for his versatility and played a wide range of roles that resonated with audiences across generations. His passing marks the end of an era in Odia cinema, where the legendary film star was admired for his natural acting style and compelling performances. He is survived by his renowned actor wife Aparajita Mohanty and son, Odia cine star Babushan.
Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi has deeply condoled the death of Uttam saying his departure has created a huge void in the Odia art field. Mr Majhi said the impression Uttam left in the Odia cinema will always keep him in the hearts of the audience. Union Ministers Jual Oram Dharmendra Pradhan and many other prominent figures from various fields have also mourned his death.
