Landslide on Kedarnath National Highway in Uttarakhand Kills 5 Pilgrims, Injures 3

     

In Uttarakhand, five pilgrims lost their lives while three injured when a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, struck near Sonprayag on the Kedarnath National Highway in Rudraprayag district yesterday evening.

       

Following the incident, the NDRF, SDRF, and local police swiftly launched a joint relief and rescue operation and recovered all bodies. Three pilgrims have also been injured and admitted to PHC centre.

       

The victims include three people from Madhya Pradesh, one from Gujarat, and one from Nepal. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.

       

Meanwhile, the landslide-affected road near Sonprayag has been cleared for pedestrian traffic. Pilgrims who were stranded since late last night towards Gaurikund are being safely escorted to Sonprayag.
