Ladakh: Week-long certificate programme on Yige reading & writing organised by LAACL Kargil concludes at Academy Hall

In Ladakh, the week-long certificate programme on Yige writing and reading programme, organized by Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (LAACL), Kargil, in collaboration with Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF), concluded at Academy Hall, Kargil on Friday evening.
 
The programme attracted a diverse group of participants, including cultural enthusiasts, scholars, students, and members of civil society, all united in their mission to preserve the ancient Yige script. The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, who praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of cultural roots in shaping community identity. He highlighted that the Yige script serves as a crucial link to the rich heritage and knowledge of the Balti and Purgi communities of Ladakh.
 
 
EC, Rural Development, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi, and Director, FS&CA, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, were also present at the event. EC Tashi appreciated the collaborative efforts of LAACL and HCHF, while Director Zubdavi stressed the need to incorporate Indigenous languages like Yige into the educational curriculum to preserve the region’s unique identity.

 

Participants of the program, along with the experts who conducted the workshop, were honoured for their contributions. The event concluded with testimonials from participants who shared their enriching experiences. This successful program has underscored the critical need for continued efforts to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Ladakh.
