Ladakh: Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (retired) Dr. B D Mishra inaugurates Union Territory's first government Milk Pasteurisation plant

In Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (retired) Dr. B D Mishra inaugurated the Union Territory's first government Milk Pasteurisation plant. Akashvani Leh correspondent reports that the establishment of this plant is expected to fulfill the long-pending demand for the availability of a market for dairy farmers in the Leh district.  The development of the dairy sector in Ladakh will also significantly contribute to the rural livelihood. It is being funded by the Animal Husbandry Department under different schemes. 

Later, Executive Councillor for Sheep and Animal Husbandry of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Tashi Namgyal Yazee interacting with the media said the department has spent 4 crore and 62 rupees for the establishment of the first government-funded milk Pasteurisation plant in Leh and it has a capacity of 2,500 litre of pasteurization of milk per hour. He further said the plant will be operated by the National Diary Development Board in close coordination with the Ladakh Milk Federation as per a tripartite MoU signed between the UT administration, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, and National Diary Development Board for a period of five years.
