The Union Territory of Ladakh celebrates Apricot Blossom festival in the different parts of Kargil and Leh districts. The events are organised by the Department of Tourism, Ladakh, in collaboration with the local communities featuring day-long performances to promote tourism in the region.
Akashvani correspondent reports that the festival started on the sixth of this month and is scheduled to conclude on April 18. Events have been organised at various iconic tourist destinations, including Garkone and Darchik in Kargil and the border areas of Turtuk and Tyaksi in the Leh district. The festival is scheduled to take place at Lehdo on April 17 and Saspol on April 18 of this month.
The Apricot Blossom Festival includes interactive exhibitions, traditional music and dance performances and serves as a platform for locals to showcase their artistic skills. This festival is also an opportunity for tourists to be part of the celebrations with an enthralling landscape of apricot trees in full bloom.
Famous for apricot production, Ladakh widely grows and transports the fruit beyond the region, and the people welcome the blooming season since the fruit is also one of the primary sources of income in the entire region. The festival, locally called Chuli Mentok, is a jubilant occasion for the people as it marks the onset of the spring season after a long, harsh winter.
