In West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR in the financial irregularities case against Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Dr. Ghosh is currently being interrogated in Kolkata, and a polygraph test is underway. The CBI has obtained court approval for polygraph tests on seven individuals, including Dr. Ghosh.
Meanwhile, protests demanding justice for the R.G. Kar victim are ongoing at various locations in West Bengal. Today, students and youth organizations from Left parties, such as the Students Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), and All India Lawyers Union (AILU), participated in a rally towards the Kolkata Police Headquarters.
A meeting was held at R.G. Kar Medical College involving the junior doctors of the institute to discuss their return to service. Principal Manas Bandopadhyay and Director of Medical Education (DME) for the Government of West Bengal, Dr. Kaustav Nayek, were present, but no conclusion was reached. The Health Secretary, Narayan Swarup Nigam, is expected to join a meeting with the Joint Doctors Platform West Bengal in the evening.
Meanwhile, the state government is increasing security at the state secretariat, Nabanna, in anticipation of the proposed Nabanna Abhiyan on August 27th, which is a protest against the rape and murder of a second-year Post Graduate trainee doctor at R.G. Kar.
