Kishanganj parliamentary constituency of Bihar to go to polls on 26th April

Kishanganj parliamentary constituency of Bihar will go to the polls along with four other seats of Purnia, Bhagalpur, Banka and Katihar on 26th April in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections. Minority dominated Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat is constituted with four assembly segments of Kishanganj district and two of Purnia district. Due to its topological position Kishanganj is also named as the gateway to the North East.

In Kishanganj parliamentary constituency of Seemanchal Bihar this time tough fight is expected to take place like 2019 Lok Sabha polls. More than 16 lakh voters of this parliamentary seat will decide the political fortune of 12 candidates. Sitting MP of Congress Dr. Mohammed Jawed, JD(U) nominee Mujahid Alam and AIMIM candidate Akhtarul Iman are prominent contestants. AIMIM candidate Mr. Iman who is also a member from Amour assembly segment making the contest triangular. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls due to distribution of votes among Congress, JD(U) and AIMIM candidates the result was decided by a very thin margin. Since 2009 the seat has been represented by Congress. In the past, three times the seat was represented by Mohammed Taslimuddin and once by BJP leader Syed Shanawaz Hussain in 1999. The assembly segments of Bahadurganj, Thakurganj, Kochadhaman, Amour and Baisi are poverty stricken and backward areas. One of the major emerging centres for the tea industry in Bihar, Kishanganj has huge potential. Lack of development, infrastructure related problems and miseries of flood are long standing issues of this parliamentary segment.
