Kerala Rains: IMD issues red alert in 3 districts

As Kerala witnesses heavy rainfall, the Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts are under red alert today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 8 districts, with the remaining districts under yellow alert. The state is expected to witness heavy rainfall till May 23. Fishermen are advised not to venture out to sea on the Kerala coast till further notice.

Control rooms are opened in all districts. The public is urged to contact control rooms for emergencies using the toll-free numbers 1077 and 1070. The health department has issued a warning to all districts about the possible outbreak of epidemics due to the ongoing heavy rain.

Strict regulations are imposed in the hilly regions, and tourism activities are banned in several places. The water levels in major dams are under close monitoring. Incessant rain has caused severe water-logging in several parts of the State.

Meanwhile, the Met Department predicts that the monsoon will reach Kerala by May 31st.
