In Kerala,polling of 44.03% has been reported at the bypoll of  Puthupally  Assembly constituency till 1pm today. Polling began at 7am and will continue till 6 pm today. 7 candidates are in the fray. The main contest is between Chandy Oommen, the UDF candidate, Jake C Thomas, the LDF candidate and Lijin Lal the NDA candidate.

The bypoll assumes political significance as it will decide the successor of the former Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy who had represented the constituency for a record 53 years at a stretch.

Counting of votes will be held on friday,8 th Sept at Baselios College in Kottayam.
