In Kerala, campaigning by political parties in the Palakkad by-poll drew to a close this evening, after 34 days of hectic electioneering. The campaign saw several dramatic political twists and turns, adding to the competitive spirit of the electoral battle.
A sea of supporters of the three fronts in the state — UDF, LDF and NDA participated in the Kottikalasam or the grand finale of the campaign, as they started from three different locations and converged at the Stadium Bus Stand in the town this evening.
The supporters were in high spirits, displaying colourful balloons, flags and bursting crackers as they danced to the tune of drums during the roadshow.
Tomorrow, a silent campaign will take place in the constituency. The polling will take place on Wednesday and the results of the recently concluded by-poll, which include the Wayanad Parliamentary constituency and the Chelakkara reserved constituency will be known on the the 23rd.
The Palakkad seat fell vacant after Congress fielded Shafi Parambil, who represented Palakkad in the Assembly, from Vadakara in the Lok Sabha polls.
