Kerala: No fresh Nipah-positive cases reported in Kozhikode for third consecutive day

In Kerala, no fresh Nipah-positive cases were reported in Kozhikode for the third consecutive day today. All the 71 samples tested today returned negative results. The condition of three Nipah-positive patients is stable, while the virus-positive nine-year-old boy continues to remain on oxygen support.

Speaking to media persons this evening, State Health Minister Veena George said restrictions will be relaxed in some places, where containment zones were declared on the 13th of this month.

The Health Minister in a meeting held earlier, urged medical officers not to lower their guard although fresh cases were not being reported. She was addressing a meeting of Medical Officers of Kozhikode and neighbouring districts.  The meeting reviewed the health preparedness in the districts and noted that 6,000 health workers were trained to handle the Nipah situation.

Three teams deputed by the union government to Kozhikode also held discussions with the Health Minister and reviewed the prevailing situation.  The central team expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the state government to contain Nipah virus.
