In Kerala, the Karichal Chundan (Snake Boat) rowed by the Pallathuruthy Boat Club won the coveted Nehru Trophy at Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha this evening. This is the fifth consecutive win of the Nehru Trophy for the Boat Club. In a pulsating final, where microseconds decided the outcome, Karichal won the race, clocking 4 minutes, 29.785 seconds. Veeyapuram Chundan, rowed by the Village Boat Club, Kainakari, clocked 4 minutes, 29.790 seconds to finish second. Hundreds of spectators, including several foreign tourists, lined the Punnamada Lake to witness the 70th edition of the Boat Race, the largest water sporting event in the country.
