In Kerala, hundreds of thousands of people patiently waited at several places to bid adieu to the former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, whose mortal remains are on their way to his hometown, Puthuppally, in Kottayam district.
 
The procession began from the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, around 7:15 this morning and is proceeding at a snail's pace, winding its way through the huge crowds that have assembled en route. It crossed the town of Kottarakkara in Kollam district some time ago and is still about 100 km away from Kottayam.
 
The procession is expected to reach Thirunakkara Maidan in Kottayam well past midnight, where it will be kept for the public to pay homage.
 
The funeral will take place at the St George Orthodox Church, Puthuppally, at 3:30 pm tomorrow.
