Recent natural disasters blocking roads have not deterred the festive spirit of Dashain in Nepal when more than half of the population of Kathmandu is going to their hometown. Local authorities are preparing alternative roads in areas where roads are damaged.
The Kathmandu Valley traffic police office has set up passenger help desks at 14 locations in Kathmandu Valley to assist those travelling back to their villages during Dashain. These temporary help desks are run by two traffic police officers who have the authority to take action and monitor excessive fares, overboard passengers out of capacity of the vehicle and investigate fake or duplicate tickets. In the helpdesk along with traffic police, personnel from the concerned police circle and community police are also deployed. To date, 13 individuals have been arrested for selling fake tickets and overcharging travellers from Balkhu and Koteshwar Bus stand.
Dashain is the biggest festival in the Himalayan Nation having religious and cultural significance. it is an occasion of family gatherings when all working people make a point to be with their families in their village or hometown.
