Karnataka State Government has decided to appeal against the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee order to release Cauvery River water to Tamilnadu. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed media persons in Bengaluru on Friday (12th July 2024) that the state will appeal before the Cauvery Water Management Authority. He added that the state is not in a position to release the desired quantity of Cauvery water to Tamilnadu due to low storage in its reservoirs. He explained that there is a 28 percent shortfall in inflow to all the four dams across Cauvery river and that the reservoirs have only 60 TMC of water which is needed for the agricultural activities in the state. He said the request made to the Regulatory Committee to give time till this month end to release water was not accepted and the state was ordered to release one TMC feet or 11,500 Cusecs of water every day from today to Tamilnadu till this month end. Siddaramaiah said that an all party meeting will be held on Sunday to decide on the next course of action.
