Karnataka experiences heavy rainfall; train connectivity to Coastal Karnataka from Bengaluru remains suspended

In Karnataka, several districts are experiencing hardship due to copious rainfall. The highways on Shiradi Ghat in Sakleshpur taluk and Charmadi Ghat were blocked due to falling mud and stones. The vehicle movement on these highways connecting coastal Karnataka was stopped as efforts were on to clear the debris. The train connectivity to Coastal Karnataka from Bengaluru remains suspended. Netravati River is in spate and at several places, the river water has submerged the highways near Uppinangady.

Near a landslide site on highway number 75 in Sakleshpur, fire force personnel, National Highways personnel and disaster management teams are engaged in clearing the debris caused by the landslide. One LPG tanker, a tipper and one electric car were taken out of the debris. The railways are also making efforts to restore the track at the landslide location between Yedakumari and Kadagaravalli stations in Hassan.

The 94 wagons of boulders on the tracks were removed and reinforced with sandbags. The road connectivity to Kodagu is also affected due to heavy downpours, landslides and flooding of roads. Six persons stranded in flood waters were rescued from a village in Virajpet taluk. The residents of Karadigodu village were relocated on the banks of river Cauvery. Bhadra, KRS and Kabini reservoirs have reported heavy inflow and water is being released downstream after alerting the residents residing near the river banks.
