In a Nepal-India coordination meeting which concluded in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, there was an agreement to open the Jhulaghat checkpoint from 6:00 am every day instead of 7 am. There is a Julaghat hanging bridge on the river Kali, the checkpoint is adjacent to the Baitadi district of Sudurpaschim in Nepal. It will remain open from 6 am to 7 pm. Earlier, the border point used to be open at 7:00 am causing sheer inconvenience for people going to India for medical treatment and shopping.
Both sides agreed to repair the age-old suspension bridge at Jhulaghat after forming a technical committee jointly by both countries. In the meeting, the Nepali side shared that the detailed project report to construct a motorable bridge at Jhulaghat is prepared and sent to the government of India. It may be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the construction of a motorable bridge at Jhulaghat during the official visit of Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal to India.
