J&K: Security forces continue search operation in Kathua for 2nd day after gunfight

In Jammu and Kashmir, the security forces continued the search operations for the second consecutive day today in the Panjtirthi area falling between the mountains of Ghati and Billawar in the Kathua district. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the search operation was launched after last night’s heavy exchange of gunfire between security forces and terrorists who fled from the village Sui in the Jakhole area on Saturday evening. Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti also visited Panjtirthi near Bhillawar yesterday and reviewed the ongoing combing operation to track down three terrorists. Army, NSG, JKP, SOG and paramilitary forces have been carrying out joint search operations in different parts of Ghati, Panjtirthi and Billawar forests to track down the terrorists, whose number was stated to be three. As reported earlier, a total of five terrorists were spotted at village Sanyal in the Hiranagar sector last week by the villagers, but they managed to escape. They resurfaced at Safiyan Jakhole in the Ghati forests of the Kathua district last Thursday, leading to heavy exchange of gun fighting in which two terrorists were killed and four police personnel were martyred. More details are awaited.
