J&K: Scrutiny of nomination papers for first phase of Assembly Elections was taken up yesterday

 
In Jammu and Kashmir, the scrutiny of nomination papers for first phase of Assembly Elections in 24 Constituencies was taken up yesterday. Out of 279 nominations, 244 nominations were found valid by the Election Commission.
 
 
More than 23.27 lakh voters including 5.66 lakh youths are eligible to exercise their electoral franchise in this Phase scheduled to be held on 18 September.
 
 
For the upcoming Assembly Elections in phase-1 scheduled to take place on September 18, candidature of 244 candidates was found valid as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India while nomination papers of 35 candidates were found invalid and were rejected. In the Kashmir Valley, 23 nominations were rejected while as 12 nomination papers were rejected in Jammu Division. As per the Election notification, the candidates can withdraw their nominations by tomorrow 30 August, 2024 before 03:00 pm in the office of the respective Returning Officers. Meanwhile, Election Commission of India issued Gazette Notification today for 26 Assembly Constuencies spread across six districts namely Ganderbal, Budgam, Srinagar, Poonch, Reasi and Rajouri for Phase-2 of the Assembly Elections going to polls on September 25. The last date of filing the nomination papers would be September 5 and Scrutiny of the nominations will be done on September 6. The last date of withdrawal of nominations would be September 9.
