In Jammu and Kashmir, the counter-terror operation by security forces at Gadool village in Kokernag area of Anantnag district has entered the seventh day today following an encounter which broke out between terrorists and security forces on Wednesday last. In the gunfight with terrorists, an Army Colonel, a Major, a DSP from J&K Police, and a soldier made their supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Talking to reporters today, Additional Director General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that top Lashkar-e-Toiba Commander Uzair Khan had been killed in Gadool Kokernag encounter and his body retrieved while another body of the terrorist was also lying flat near the gunfight spot. He also informed that the police had information about the presence of two to three terrorists in the area based on intelligence inputs.
The ADGP also urged the locals not to go closer to the encounter site as there could be unexploded grenades or shells there. He said the search operation will continue to track down any terrorist hiding in the area. The Army and Police had used the latest gadgets including Heron, Hexacopter, drones, quadcopters, RPGs, grenades, and drone-fitted guns to eliminate the terrorists.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid a wreath and paid homage to Sepoy Pardeep Singh, who made his supreme sacrifice during this anti-terror operation. While expressing his grief, Manoj Sinha said that the grateful nation will always remain indebted to his supreme sacrifice.
The mortal remains of Sepoy Pardeep Singh will be sent to his hometown for last rites with full military honours.
