Campaigning gains momentum for Assembly polls in Haryana and J&K

Political parties have intensified their election campaign for the third and final phase of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and single-phase voting in Haryana.

Addressing public rallies in Jammu and Haryana, Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi said the people of Jammu and Kashmir want peace and a better future for their children. He said the huge voting in the last two phases of assembly elections is a testimony to this.

Mr. Modi said Congress can never respect those who die for the country. It is the same Congress that made our army families yearn for ‘One Rank, One Pension’ for 4 decades. Mr. Modi said that after forming the government in 2014, his government implemented OROP. He said, Till now, army families have received more than 1 lakh 20 thousand crore rupees.

Speaking at the BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Rally at Hisar in Haryana, the Prime Minister said there can be no stability in a state where the Congress is in power, as the party makes false promises and then shrugs them off after the elections. He said the Congress does not see anything except votes, whereas the BJP supports the deprived and gives wings to their dreams. The Prime Minister said the BJP is solving the problems of farmers, whereas the Congress sees farmers as a vote bank only. Referring to the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army on this day in 2016 on terror launch pads across the LOC, the Prime Minister accused the Congress of raising questions about the credibility of the Indian defence forces by asking for proof of the strikes.

BJP leader and Union Minister Manohar Lal said the I.N.D.I.A. bloc did not join hands because they feared defeat in the state. Polling for the 90-assembly seats in Haryana will be held on the 5th of next month.

Addressing her first election rally at Bishnah in Jammu, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi alleged that the lieutenant governor has been working for the outsiders and not for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She said the sand that is excavated from J&K is sent outside, and when it is purchased by the people in the UT, it comes at higher prices. She alleged that all small businesses are being destroyed by bringing in outside companies.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, former Chief Minister and Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad, targeted the National Conference and the Congress over the issue of Article 370.

Voting for 40 assembly segments in the last phase will be held on Tuesday.
