In Jammu and Kashmir, the District Administration of Samba district in collaboration with the Agriculture Department has initiated steps to resolve a major issue being faced by the farmers of District Samba regarding the cultivation of land beyond the border fence. The said land has not been cultivated from the year 1999.
The Chief Agriculture Officer Samba, Madan Gopal Singh said that about 500 Kanals (62.5 acres) of land has been brought under Border Cultivation comprising the area of villages Chalyari Khurd, Chalyari Kalan, Sayal, Chachwal of Rajpura Block District Samba. The Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare (AP&FW) Samba has issued 5 quintals of Mash Variety Walab 1 to the farmers whose land beyond the fence has been cultivated. The joint initiative of the District Administration in Collaboration with AP&FW Samba has brought a ray of hope to the farmers of border areas with the cultivation of their land beyond the fence so that their income will increase.
