In Jammu and Kashmir, a special summary revision of voter lists commenced today and will continue until July 24. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that during this period, voters can file objections and claims from July 25 to August 9, with resolutions expected by August 19. The final voter list is anticipated to be released by August 20. The number of polling stations is set to increase compared to previous Lok Sabha elections to accommodate more than 1500 voters per polling station, with provisions for setting up two polling stations.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other related staff are actively engaged in the special summary revision activities, aiming to surpass the voter count from the 2014 assembly elections. BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification to rectify errors in the voter list, improve photo quality, expand the control table, and define polling station boundaries. The draft list is scheduled to be prepared on July 1, 2024, and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) will address claims and objections even on weekends. The Supreme Court has mandated that the assembly elections be conducted by September 2024.
