In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the much-awaited Assembly Election process being held after a gap of ten years to elect a popular government, is underway. The poll process will be completed in three phases. The upcoming elections for Phase-1 are scheduled for September 18 in which 8 Assembly Constituencies of three districts of Chenab Valley in Jammu division will go to polls. Among these 8 Constituencies, 54-Ramban Assembly Constituency happens to be one among the key Constituencies.

Stretching along 66 km of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) from Nashri to Banihal, the Ramban district has registered a total of 2,24,195 voters including 1,16,009 male, 1,08,185 female and 1 transgender across its two Assembly constituencies Ramban and Banihal. A total of 365 polling stations are spread across the two Assembly constituencies, ensuring that every registered voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. The 54-Ramban Assembly Constituency, notable for its balanced voter demographic, has a total of 98,099 registered voters, comprising 50,982 males, 47,116 females and 1 transgender voter. To ensure thorough voter access, 171 polling stations have been assigned to this constituency, reflecting its importance in the district’s electoral structure. In Ramban district, a total of 15 candidates from various political parties and independents are in the final electoral fray. 8 candidates are in the final electoral fray for election in 54-Ramban Assembly Constituency including three Independent candidates. The prominent candidates in the final electoral fray are Arjun Singh Raju from Jammu Kashmir National Conference, Rajesh Thakur from Bhartiya Janta Party, Bahadur Singh from Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party, Girdhari Lal from Democratic Progressive Azad Party and Tilak Raj from Shiv Sena. There would be a direct contest between Arjun Singh Raju of Jammu Kashmir National Conference and Rajesh Thakur of Bhartiya Janta Party. The voters of the constituency will lock the fate of these two major contenders’ in the EVMs on September 18 by casting their franchise. The election department has assured minimum facilities in the constituency. Besides other arrangements adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth and incident free elections.
