J&K: All arrangements in place for second phase of Assembly Elections

 

In Jammu and Kashmir, all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair, and smooth polling in the second phase of the assembly elections in the state tomorrow. Twenty six assembly constituencies spread over six districts will go to polls in this phase.

 

Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the districts where polling will be held include; Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch in Jammu region, and Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal in the Kashmir Valley. About 25.78 lakh eligible voters will decide the fate of 239 candidates in this phase. The key candidates among them include former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PCC UT Chief Tariq Hamid Qarrah, and Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari. The voting will be held from 7 AM to 6 PM.

 

A total of 3,502 polling stations across all 26 constituencies have been equipped with 100 percent webcasting facilities, and all minimum assured basic amenities are being provided for the convenience of voters.

       

More than 15 thousand 5 hundred displaced Kashmiri Pandit voters from across the country are eligible to vote at 24 polling stations in the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election tomorrow. Akashvani’s correspondent reports that the displaced Kashmiri Pandits will be exercising their right to franchise in the 15 segments of central Kashmir’s Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts.

       

Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Arvind Karwani, who is supervising the election process, said over 14,700 such voters are registered in Jammu to exercise their right to franchise at 19 polling stations in Jammu. Similarly, over 600 Kashmiri migrant voters are registered in Delhi to cast their votes at four polling stations in Delhi and over 350 at one such polling station in Udhampur district.

               

Campaigning for the second phase of polling ended yesterday evening. Assembly elections are being conducted in three phases in the Union Territory. Over 61 percent polling was recorded in the first phase of assembly elections on 18th September, while the third phase of elections covering the remaining 40 assembly segments will be held on First October. The counting of votes will take place on 8th October.
